Very good course but amendment needed
Part of the course in relation to MEWP's and cherry pickers is incorrect. Question 20 in the Test 'When using a cherry picker, when should you NOT wear fall arrest equipment?' needs amending. It is strongly recommended that a full body harness plus preferably an adjustable RESTRAINT (not fall arrest) lanyard set to as short as possible is used when in any boom type MEWP (including cherry pickers). An adjustable restraint lanyard correctly used in a MEWP (set to as short as possible) will prevent any operative being catapulted out of the platform should boom-flex occur. If as you state in the your Working at Height Training course at the moment, fall arrest equipment was to be used in a cherry picker it could allow for an operative to be thrown out of the platform should it be subject to boom-flex. Although the operative may come to a sudden stop mid-air, the side load force put on the platform and MEWP could cause it to over turn which in turn means the operative will hit the ground with the MEWP also potentially landing on this individual. Also the designated anchor points found in MEWP's are usually for 'restraint' only and NOT 'fall arrest'. Fall arrest anchor points need to conform to BS EN 795 which as an IPAF instructor I have never seen fitted in any MEWP platform.
Comprehensive but not monotonous
Its refreshed my memory on working from height requirements and best practices. Some good questions and a fair amount of content covered.
