Good practical advice

It is refreshing to hear the topic being spoken about in a 'matter of fact' way. I am used to patronising or overly sensitive delivery on this topic, and it is good to address the importance of having a mental health toolkit rather than just expecting external support.

Top Marks for creating Awareness

A most informative and useful guide to creating Awareness and where/how to seek help. Don't suffer in silence... talk to someone you trust... take baby steps to recovery... be positive!

5/5
Patronising/condescending

As someone living with mental illness, this feels very unhelpful. 'Change your negative thoughts to positive ones' doesn't really work if you're in that bad of a place. It's like telling someone to think themselves better, it does nothing to address the possible trauma or chemical imbalances causing the problem. Managers & HR supporting you if you disclose a difficulty? Very rare. Talk to your GP for help? If you're lucky, there might be help available locally, but often there's a lengthy waiting list and the number of sessions are limited, so the problems don't get resolved. Depression isn't just being sad/tearful. Often you don't feel anything - good or bad. We don't need sticking plaster courses to make us 'aware' of mental health, that make you feel good because you passed a test. We need proper systemic change, funding and support of services, so that people actually stand a chance of getting the help they need instead of being stuck in an endless loop of being passed between services for a few sessions here and a few sessions there. We need to make it so that help can be accessed outside of working hours. We need to make it so that help isn't based on a postcode lottery, or whether you can afford to pay <£60 for an hour long session.

Very interesting and informative

The course was delivered in an interesting way that was informative and helpful. A lot of the subjects are difficult to approach but the course managed to succeed in delivering the course content well and concisely.

Great course

Somewhat partronising

It summed up (in the quiz especially) certain things which absolutely don't help everyone, and won't help a lot of people who suffer. i.e. the bit where it states that it is important to swap a positive thought in when a bad one appears - that's just not how stress, depression, mental illness or anxiety works, and is akin to just saying "well just be happy then"
