Creates space for thought....

Has a good mix of gentle language and soft graphics which help to create space for thought around mental health and what that title actually means. It breaks down a large subject into bite sized pieces and normalises it. Makes you stop and think, offering a greater awareness for how you and people around you might be affected by this delicate topic. It also offers additional learnings and supportive resources should you want/need them.

A helpful start but misses the point

The course was a good introduction to mental health and it's helpful to identify and be aware of the difficulties and challenges of life. However, one area that was lacking is that it's important to also acknowledge that many of the negative thoughts people have are genuine and simply swapping them for positive thoughts runs the risk of effectively sweeping them under the carpet. We live in a broken world and so 'life's not fair', 'why is this happening to me?', 'what's the point?' and other similar thoughts are warnings to us that something serious is wrong in the world. The Bible descibes this as creation "groaning" (Romans 8:22) and explains that it is a consequence of our rejection of God's rule and authority. Many of the steps and practices identified in the course can be helpful for mental health in the short term, but the only real and lasting solution is to address the big problem by returning to God through faith and trust in Jesus Christ: "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:24-25). We will still experience many challenges and negative thoughts, but the eternal perspective provided through salvation in Jesus allows us to cope with all the mental strains of life and join with the apostle Paul in saying, "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." (Romans 8:18)
