The latest studies in training shows that people are no longer required to strength before doing any lifting as you mention in your course. Before the lift we should heat up our body temperature and muscles by doing the movement with no load and by other means. AFTER the lifting or exercise is when you are required to strength to relax muscles and articulations.
The course contains all the information you need to protect yourself if manual handling is part of your job, but not all of it. People whose main job is manual handling ought to have more training and in-person training as well, but this would still a good introduction for them.
