A good and useful course

A "minefield" for everyone, but this course sets it out very well.

It has been a good selection of courses

Equality and diversity course has been an area i have been seeking clarity and it has been really helpful making this particular choice . As a granddad and of ethnic background working in a students environment, it has opened my eyes as to why it has made no difference to my employers and colleagues and i have really been made welcome and treated just as "One of the guys". Everything i learnt on this course has been standard practice in URBANEST .

I was very impress with the course.

It gave me a lot of knowledge on the subject of Equality and Diversity that I had not thought so clearly about before. I can see how relevant it is that everyone understand how importance it is to value and treat each other with respect.

Useful but the content needs improvement

Discrimination in the workplace is something that most if not all companies struggle with, and any course that aims to improve the situation is a positive step forward. However, this particular course was too reductive and simplified to provide much of an effective tool. In some cases, the conversation ended after a basic tautological definition, such as 'sexual harassment is any form of harassment based on someone's sexual orientation'. The section on non-binary gender identities was particularly lacking, saying things like 'Many people choose to change their identity,' rather than the more accurate 'Many people do not identify with the gender to which they were assigned at birth'. The term non-binary or other useful terms were not even included. There was also a disturbing focus on the commercial benefits to the company for stamping out harassment (such as increasing employee retention and productivity), rather than a focus on the moral and mental-health implications of fair and ethical treatment. There was little discussion about the needs for greater awareness of corporate culture, and an understanding that removing discrimination starts from the top, with positive models of fair treatment from the leadership team.
