DoS attacks don't have a pre-determined resolution time. They persist until the attacker gets bored or the infrastructure mitigates the attack. It certainly isn't a pre-determined 1-2 hours. It could also be as little as 5 minutes, or seconds as defensive infrastructure intercepts and mitigates the attack.
