Ikigai 4 spheres
SECTION 1

Ikigai is a Japanese idea that can be roughly understood as the purpose or meaning of someone’s life. We’ll help staff start their own journey of discovery and give them the tools that will help them to find their purpose and recognise their own value.

Action1: Think about it
SECTION 2

In this section, users will identify the four spheres - things you’re passionate about, things you’re good at, things the world needs and things you can be paid for - and they will think about how to fill these spheres, identify patterns between them, imagine what their life living their ikigai might look like, and finally, decide what small or big change they will make.

About this course

There are a number of ways that you can recognise your own value and the benefits that this can bring in both your personal life and at work. You might identify your value through your relationships, your happiness, your purpose or many other things.

This Personal Development course will look into the Japanese philosophy of Ikigai. There is no direct English translation, but it’s a term that embodies the idea of happiness in living, or your reason for getting up in the morning. It is composed of two words: iki, meaning life, and gai, describing value or worth. Westernised cultures have interpreted this philosophy into the Ikigai Venn diagram comprising of; what you love, what the world needs, what you can be paid for and what you are good at.

This training is suitable for all levels of employees. Employers, managers, supervisors, and employees alike should be aware of their value and in turn, it could create a more supportive workplace culture.

Interesting concept
RatingRatingRatingRatingRating

It introduces the user to 'Ikigai' a Japanese idea regarding the purpose of your life. Writing and organising your spheres can take some time, so might be an idea to re-visit the course once you have been able to really think about and complete these. Definitely an interesting concept that may help organise who you are and how to bring joy into your daily life.

Thought provoking
RatingRatingRatingRatingRating

A thought provoking session. I have printed off the resources to work through. I would have liked more emphasis on the influence my value has on my colleagues and the importance of my value albeit different from the other values of my colleagues. Each value has an important part to play. This may be a preconception that I made before attending the course and my need for this emphasis to be made due to my own insecurities. Overall it was a good session and I have received a great deal of learning from it.
