About this course
Gender Identity and Gender Expression are two different things.
"Gender identity is someone’s personal and intimate sense of their own gender. Gender expression is how they choose to reflect their gender identity in their physical appearance." - amnesty.org.uk
During our Gender Identity & Expression Training, staff will be introduced to the basics of gender identity and how it’s separate from someone’s biological sex, the gender spectrum and what it means to be trans, gender fluid, and non-binary. We’ll also take a look at the different ways that people express their gender, the use of language and pronouns, and we’ll provide users with some simple ways they can actively show their support to the trans community.
Our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Training is also a fantastic way to provide your staff with essential training to learn what is unacceptable behaviour at work, how our behaviour may affect others, stereotyping, victimisation and discrimination, and the importance of creating an open and inclusive workplace.

better Understand the term Gender.
This is a broad and somewhat divisive subject so it was useful to summarise some of these terms. Kindness and understanding seem much more important to me than getting the terms spot on. I would treat people of all denominations with compassion and respect, improving my knowledge of terms could help in that regard and this training helped me understand that.
Informative and useful.

Felt a bit heavy-handed in places.
As someone who lives near a very gender diverse area and recently went to university, this course feels a little heavy-handed and takes a 'one-size fits all approach'. I understand that in most parts of the UK it is less usual to encounter alternative gender expressions. It might also be worth saying that the more often you meet people with 'they/ them' pronouns, the easier it becomes to use them, so it can be easy to accidentally misgender without meaning to be microagressive. Really enjoyed the Ted talk by Sophie (in additional resources).
excellent
Helped me to self reflect especially as times are changing
Why is this training important?
Business benefits
Having open discussions about gender identity & expression is a crucial step in learning more about the true nature of gender and how much variety it encompasses, so our societies can become ever more inclusive.
Everyday, more businesses across the globe are recognising the importance of being an active ally to trans people. Having a workplace that is inclusive of both gender identity and expression will lead to benefits such as increased staff morale, an improved company reputation and staff retention. This course is the perfect starting point for those who wish to learn about gender identity and expression, and can help to make a real positive difference to those in the workplace that align themselves with the trans community.
