Your Legal Responsibilities
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
This legislation requires employers to provide adequate training. It requires employers to ensure there are appropriate fire safety measures in place to prevent fires and measures to deal with fires should they arise. This includes evacuations.
Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
These Regulations put a duty on the employers to assess the risks to employees’ health from manual handling operations. They should aim to remove or minimise this risk. The regulations also require employers to provide training to minimise the risk of injury in these tasks.
The Confined Space Regulations 1997
These regulations are relevant when a risk assessment has established that there is a risk of injury from working within a confined space. Work may be carried out in the space if there is a safe system of work and there is no other way to carry out the task i.e. working within the confined space should be a last resort.
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981
These regulations aim to ensure that employers provide appropriate and adequate first aid facilities, equipment and personnel. It requires them to perform first aid needs assessments and provide at least one appointed person or first aiders depending on your workplace.
