PUWER inspection checklist
Posted 6 years ago
Unfortunately, it is frequent that a report of an accident occurring due to the use of workplace equipment arises. However, most of the time this could have been prevented if the correct detection and prevention systems had been correctly in place.
Such incidents often serve as a wake-up call to employers about taking their duties to protect workers from such incidents seriously. One of these duties is to carry out inspections of The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).
Although there are no legal requirements stating what a PUWER inspection should contain, these are the basic types of information you should include:
- information on the type of equipment and the model;
- any identification mark or number;
- its usual location;
- the date that the inspection was done;
- who carried out the inspection;
- any faults;
- any action taken to these faults;
- the date when repairs or other necessary action were carried out.
Contrary to popular belief, records do not have to be kept in a particular form. They can be handwritten or typed & stored electronically.
