Government Update: As of the 4th of July, 2020, the two metre social distancing rule has been replaced by a one metre social distancing rule. People are advised to keep a “one metre plus” distance rule in places where two-metres are not possible.
At the moment, the additional consideration, on top of your ‘normal’ workplace Health & Safety considerations is, of course, the spread of the Coronavirus; and in most workplaces, this will require employers to put extra measures in place to keep employees safe. Many organisations will have created new policies or procedures, which explain what both employees and employers have to do in the current climate. For example, there may be a Social Distancing Policy, additional hygiene procedures, self-isolating procedures or handwashing policies.
The measures each organisation takes will differ, but it’s so important that you know what measures your organisation has in place, and that you follow them. It’s not just your own Health and Safety that’s at stake, but the Health and Safety of everyone around you, both at work, at home, and anywhere in between!
5 steps to working safely;
1. Carry out a COVID-19 risk assessment
2. Develop cleaning, handwashing and hygiene procedures
3. Help people to work from home
4. Maintain 2m social distancing, where possible
5. Where people cannot be 2m apart, manage transmission risk
