Dementia Awareness – A year in review

Dementia Awareness – A year in review

This June marks a significant milestone for us at iHasco, as we celebrate the one-year anniversary since the launch of our Dementia Awareness Training course, coinciding with Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month.

Over the past year, we've seen incredible strides in educating both employers and employees about dementia. However, the journey towards greater understanding and support is ongoing, and much work remains to be done.

What is dementia and why is awareness important?

Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a range of progressive neurological disorders, of which Alzheimer's disease is the most common. In the UK alone, there are currently around 850,000 people living with dementia, with numbers projected to rise to over 1 million by 2025. This condition affects not just those diagnosed, but also their families, friends, and colleagues, making it a public health priority.

Awareness and education are crucial in mitigating the impact of dementia. Understanding the condition helps in reducing stigma, fostering empathy, and equipping individuals with the knowledge needed to support those affected. Over the past year, our courses have helped to empower thousands of individuals with essential information about dementia, its symptoms, and effective ways to provide support.

In addition to our general course that’s been designed for everyone, we also offer a specialised course tailored for carers. Our Dementia Awareness for Carers Training course delves deeper into the specific needs and challenges faced by those caring for individuals with dementia. This training is designed to provide carers with practical strategies to enhance the quality of life for those they look after, ensuring compassionate and informed care.

Employers play a critical role in supporting employees who may be living with dementia or caring for someone who is. By promoting dementia awareness within the workplace, employers can create a supportive environment that fosters understanding and accommodation. Training courses like ours can be invaluable tools for businesses looking to cultivate such an environment, enabling them to support their workforce effectively.

Continuing the journey

As we reflect on the past year, we recognise the progress made but also acknowledge the road ahead. Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month serves as a reminder of the importance of continued awareness and support. We remain committed to providing high-quality training that empowers individuals and organisations to better understand and support those affected by dementia.

By continuing to educate and raise awareness, we can collectively make a difference. Whether you’re an employer, employee, carer, or simply someone wanting to learn more, our courses are designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to make a positive impact.
