2.9% of the UK workforce (amounting to 900,000 workers) are on zero hours contracts. But are they entitled to holiday pay or not?
Whilst a worker on a zero-hour contract is not obliged to accept the work that you offer to them, the worker is still entitled to receive holiday pay, which, in a year, is 5.6 weeks of their normal weekly hours.
To work out exactly how much they should be paid, take the average hours worked in a week from the last 12 weeks the employee has worked. Then, times this by their hourly rate.
Some of the statutory rights for workers, such as the right to Statutory Maternity Pay or Statutory Sick Pay, depend on you earning above the Lower Earnings Limit of £113 per week from one employer.
