About this course

The menopause is as natural as a sunrise. However, it’s not as pleasant. It often has a negative impact on the emotional and physical health of anyone who’s experiencing it, which is why forward-thinking organisations are asking, learning, and paying attention – to make sure they take action to support their employees.

Thankfully, there’s a lot that both employers and employees can do to support those experiencing menopause, which includes menopause in the workplace training. What’s more, our menopause training course is delivered online for your convenience and can be completed on any device, at any time.

What are the benefits of menopause training for employees?

Menopause training can offer lots of valuable information for your employees, helping them to gain a wider understanding of a subject that is widely considered to be taboo. These include:

  • Understanding the biological and physiological elements of menopause.
  • Allows employees to better support female colleagues going through menopause.
  • How to recognise menopausal symptoms in themselves and others.
  • Deeper knowledge of treatment options to aid health and wellbeing.
  • Helps to foster an empathetic culture that addresses stigmatised attitudes toward menopause.

Menopause awareness can help employees gain an understanding of the sensitive subject of menopause. It is likely that some of your employees will also experience symptoms at some stage, therefore it is important to create an awareness that brings together your workforce. This helps to foster an inclusive work environment where employees feel understood. It also helps other employees have mutual recognition and awareness of sensitive issues affecting their peers.

Why is menopause awareness training important?

Compliance

It’s important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.

Employers have a legal duty to look after employees experiencing the menopause. The menopause isn’t specifically mentioned in the Equality Act – but due to the sensitive nature of the subject, there is a connection connected to the protected characteristics of age, gender reassignment, and sex. This also includes disability, if symptoms have had a substantial impact on an employee’s health for 12 months or more. As menopause symptoms can last up to months or even years, it is important to make all your staff aware of this online menopause training course.

And, as it can directly impact someone’s mental and physical health, it’s also part of your employer’s Duty of Care within the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations.

Employers also have an ethical responsibility to educate themselves and other colleagues too. The aim of any organisation should be to ensure that any employees experiencing the menopause (and the peri-menopause) can access the following:

  • Know where and how to access support.
  • Feel confident asking their line manager for support, guidance and adjustments
  • Feel comfortable discussing their symptoms – if they choose to do so
  • Know that information they share will be handled in the strictest confidence
  • Know that their job security and promotion opportunities will not be negatively affected
