About this course

The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations were introduced to make workplaces safer for anyone who works with flammable or potentially explosive substances or substances corrosive to metal.

Without proper controls in place, these substances can ignite and explode, causing serious harm to anyone nearby.

DSEAR places responsibilities on employers to keep anyone who might be affected by dangerous substances safe and to control any hazards they pose. However, employees also have a crucial role to play in keeping themselves and others safe at work.

This course teaches the user about DSEAR and what it covers, what responsibilities employers have to keep everyone safe, and what employees must do to help their organisation comply with the regulations.

VERY USEFUL

Its very important for every employee to do this course.

great presentation

very informative course that covers all areas of what you would need to know to keep you safe in all aspects when working around substances that potentially cause harm when being worked with incorrectly found it very easy to understand and enjoyed how quickly it was presented without losing the main details.

the knowledge i need for work envirinment

This user gave this course a rating of 5/5 stars

A good start but lacking in detail.

Good content for an entry level course, however important points to consider for the end user, especially in our environment (road tankers). Course omits overviews of LEL, the risk and severity of secondary explosions caused by settled dust where poor housekeeping is not observed, does not emphasize enough the role of static especially in dust or mist explosions. Does not touch on ATEX equipment and understanding ATEX codes, does not talk about non-sparking tools and the role the transferring of heat can have in explosive atmospheres.

Good introductory course

Clear presentation, good summary to give general understanding of DSEAR

good clear course

again very clear and easy to understand

Great Entry level course

This is a great entry level course for people to have an understanding of DSEAR, people working in these hazardous areas can be blind to the hazards that they are exposed to daily, this course helps them understand what their employers are required to do for them to help keep them safe and healthy.

Why is this training important?

Compliance

It’s important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.

Compliance with The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 is a legal requirement in the UK, and failure to do so can lead to organisations and individuals being fined and prosecuted.

DSEAR applies to workplaces where dangerous substances are present, used, or produced.

Workplaces are any premises or parts of premises used for work. This includes places such as industrial and commercial premises, land-based and offshore installations, mines and quarries, construction sites, vehicles and vessels, etc. Places such as the common parts of shared buildings, private roads and paths on industrial estates and road works on public roads are also premises – as are houses and other domestic premises, if people are at work there.

The HSE

Business benefits

It is crucial for all organisations to carefully consider how they can best keep everybody safe.

Knowing what substances in your workplace have the potential to present fire and explosion risk should be a key part of an organisation’s risk assessment. If there are any substances of this nature present, then it is crucial that relevant personnel are provided with training to understand the dangers associated with the substances and how to avoid any accidents from occurring.
