About this course
Everyone deserves an equal level of care quality and support to meet their individual needs, but some people could have a disadvantage due to their background and culture.
Care workers must be sensitive to people’s needs and have the confidence to discuss individuals’ differences to find out how they can best offer care and support.
Standard 4 of the Care Certificate requires carers to:
- Understand the importance of equality and inclusion
- Work in an inclusive way
- Access information, advice and support about diversity, equality and inclusion
Help ensure that your staff show compliance towards the Equality Act 2010 with our CPD Accredited Equality & Diversity in Care Training course.
This course works alongside our 14 other awareness courses that make up the Care Certificate Standards.
You can access our free worksheet that has been designed to accompany our online Equality & Diversity in Care Training course. In each section, there is a box for you to
tick when you have watched the relevant slide in our course. You can also take notes that will help you during your practical assessment at work.
This course equips learners with the knowledge that’s required to be put into practice in the workplace, whereby they can do the ‘practical’ part of their training, followed by having the Care Certificate supplied to them by their management as they meet the required standards. These courses provide part of training but practical training is still required to obtain the care certificate.

Why is this Equality and Diversity in Care training important?
Compliance
It’s important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.
Equality & Diversity in Care is Standard 4 of the 15 standards that are in the Care Certificate. Those who have job roles in the health and social care sector are shown what is expected of them in the Care Certificate which is an agreed set of standards that employees need to pass. It forms part of an induction programme that should be covered if you are ‘new to care’.
The Care Certificate was developed by Skills for Care, Health Education England and Skills for Health.
Equality & Diversity Act 2010
The Equality Act became law in October 2010. It replaced previous legislation (such as the Race Relations Act 1976 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995) and ensures consistency in what employers and employees need to do to make their workplaces a fair environment and comply with the law.
Equal Care
Equality and Diversity training in health and social care is crucial for ensuring everyone receives the same level of care. This course is more than just making sure requirements are met. It helps your employees understand the importance of equality and diversity in care, enabling them to give the best possible care, no matter their age, disability, sex or ethnic background.
