About this course
Personal development is a professional process that begins at work with the clarification of your objectives and targets and is accomplished by achieving goals that you have set yourself in order to make the most of your potential.
Standard 2 of the Care Certificate states carers must:
- Agree on a personal development plan with their employer
- Develop their knowledge, skills and understanding
The easiest way to keep track of the development of an employee is through a Personal Development Plan (PDP) – an action plan that helps you organise, identify learning & development needs to help you accomplish day-to-day tasks more efficiently, and then tracks the progress.
Most PDPs cover a 12 month period – so it is best practice to assess your goals annually.
This course works alongside our 14 other Online Care Certificate Courses that make up the Care Certificate Standards.
You can access our free worksheet that has been designed to accompany our Personal Development Online Training Course. In each section, there is a box for you to tick when you have watched the relevant slide in our course. You can also take notes that will help you during your practical assessment at work.
This course equips learners with the knowledge that’s required to be put into practice in the workplace, whereby they can do the ‘practical’ part of their training, followed by having the Care Certificate supplied to them by their management as they meet the required standards. These courses provide part of training but practical training is still required to obtain the care certificate.

Why is personal development training in care important?
Compliance
It’s important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.
Personal Development in Care is Standard 2 of the 15 standards that are in the Care Certificate. Those who have job roles in the health and social care sector are shown what is expected of them in the Care Certificate which is an agreed set of standards that employees need to pass. It forms part of an induction programme that should be covered if you are ‘new to care’.
The Care Certificate was developed by Skills for Care, Health Education England and Skills for Health.
