What are the risks of legionella bacteria?
Posted 7 years ago
Legionnaires disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia. Legionella bacteria tend to live in natural water sources. However, can multiply to dangerous levels in underused water pipes, condensers and spas. Employers must consider the risk to employees and the public and take appropriate precautions.
A person in control of a premises must:
- identify and assess sources of risk
- prepare a scheme (or course of action) for preventing the risk
- implement and manage the scheme
- keep records and check that what has been done is effective
